Then Ataru and Caro spent the next few days at Franphilia's house, where they continued their magical training, each developing to a satisfactory level.

“Franphilia, Sebeus, you two have been quite a help.
Thank you so much.”

“Thank you very much.
I never thought I'd be able to use magic this well!”

Smiling, Ataru and Caro thanked them and bowed deeply in gratitude.

“No, no, both of you absorbed more and more of what I taught you, so it was very rewarding to teach you.”

Those were the words of their first teacher, Franphilia.
At first, she wasn't sure if there was anything she could teach them, but she was proud of them for showing more growth than she could.

“The two of you are growing in different directions, and it's been fun to watch.
I also learned a lot from Ataru-sama, as he used it in ways that I would never have thought of.
Thank you very much.”

Sebeus, their second teacher, expressed his gratitude to Ataru in the opposite direction.
Ataru's unconventional ideas seemed to have been a good inspiration for Sebeus.

“Really? I enjoyed it too.
Thanks to you, I think it will be much easier for us to travel.”

Hearing this, Franphilia narrowed her eyes.
When she heard that, she narrowed her eyes.

“So, you are going on a journey after all?”

After listening to her, Ataru had talked to Caro many times during the training period and decided to go to the Beastman Territory.

“Oh, I made a promise to Caro.
I want to go there and see what it's like, and that's something I'm looking forward to because I don't often get the chance to take long trips.”

He hadn't yet decided what he would do when he eventually reached the Beastmen Territory.
He hadn't decided what he was going to do when he eventually reached the Beastman Territory, but now that he had a goal in mind, Ataru felt refreshed.

“Well ……
I have already invested in the abilities of the two of you, so if you ever decide to live anywhere after your journey is over, I hope you will remember this city, and I will spare no expense in supporting you then, okay?”

This city was the first place Ataru had visited, and was the first place he had met Caro, and the first place he had experienced a major battle.

There was no end to the number of other “firsts” he had experienced in this city, but they were all memories that Ataru enjoyed.

“Oh.
I guess I'll have to wait until It's over, but I'll consider this town as an option.”

It sounded like a cryptic reply, but it was enough for Franphilia.

“Caro-san, you've gotten stronger in the past few days.
Please take care of yourself and go with Ataru-san.”

“Ha, yes! I'll do my best!

Caro was moved to tears by the fact that she was even caring for herself as she was a slave.
Franphilia's expression was so compassionate that Caro thought that if she had an older sister, she would be like this.

“Well, we'd better get going.
Thank you.”

“Thank you for everything you've done for me.
Thank you very much!”

Ataru and Caro thanked Franphilia and Sebeus one last time, and slowly left the mansion.

“Well, let's head over there first.”

“……
Where to?”

Ataru, who was walking through the city, had not explained to Caro where he was going and only shook his head vaguely when asked the question.

As they approached it, Caro's expression grew darker and darker as she realized their destination.

“……
This is it.”

As Caro had expected from the directions, but still hoped she was wrong, she arrived at a slaver's store.

Recalling the time she spent here, Caro, who had no idea what was going to happen next, stiffened with anxiety and followed Ataru.

“Oh, oh, well, well, well.
You must be the customer who bought the slave before.”

The shopkeeper, Bazu, seemed to remember Ataru.
He greeted Ataru with a smile and appeared as usual, wiping sweat from his brow.[1]

“Oh, I've come to ask you a favor.”

“Mmm, are you asking me to buy a slave because you no longer need one? If that's the case, you're more than welcome.
I don't know how you did it, but from the looks of it, all your injuries are healed, and you can sell this for a good price.”

After hearing Ataru's story, Bazu looked at Caro with a jittery look and then did a quick calculation in his head.

Caro felt uncomfortable just looking at him and hid behind Ataru.
Caro hid behind Ataru, and her face became distorted with sadness and anxiety as she hid.

“Will I be sold?” “Will I become someone else's other than Ataru-sama?” She couldn't stop shivering just thinking about it.

“Oh, come on, don't look at Caro like that.
You're scaring her, aren't you? That's not why I came here today, it's because I want to cancel Caro's slave contract.”

Both Bazu's and Caro's eyes widened in surprise when they heard that.

They were surprised to hear that, because although there was a system for canceling slave contracts, few people had actually tried to perform it.

“Ho, are you serious? I've heard of people being released in the past, and I've even heard that most of them ran away from their masters afterwards!”

Bazu asked loudly in disbelief to Ataru, who chose to release a slave instead of just selling it.

“That's right! I've never heard of anyone having a slave released.
I'm not going to run away, but still, why?”

“It's not like I'm going to run away, but still, why!” said Caro, wondering why he had decided to do such a thing.
She had no complaints about her current situation, in fact she was proud to be Ataru's slave as it was the best thing that had ever happened to her in her life.

“What's so surprising about ……? I'll just explain it to you.
I've already told Caro that I'm leaving for the east.
My destination is the Beastman Territory.”

When Bazu heard Ataru's words, he understood why the two of them were so surprised.

“I see, I understand if that's the case.
Please come with me to this room.”

It was Caro who was surprised that he had been convinced by that explanation alone.
She was too busy walking with him to understand what was going on, and she was confused.

She had heard that they were going to the Beastmen Territory to look for Caro's parents' house, as Ataru had said earlier.

However, she didn't understand why that would lead to freeing her from slavery.

“Caro, the East is a country of other races that have a strict view on slavery.
Therefore, there is no advantage to taking Caro along under a slave contract.
In fact, I can foresee that it might even prevent us from entering the country.”

Caro, who looked up at Ataru as he walked and spoke softly to her next to her, finally understood after hearing that much.

“Besides, Caro's not going to run away, is she?”

“Of course!”

Caro nodded her head in agreement with Ataru, who was staring straight at her.
And she felt her heart warm up as she was sure that she would not be thrown away at the same time.

“Well then, don't worry, I'll keep up with you.

Before they knew it, Bazu was well ahead of them, and Ataru ran after him a little faster so as not to be left behind.
Caro wiped away the tears that were nearly spilling from the joy of being able to be with him from now on, and hurriedly went along with him.

“Please come inside this room.”

Ataru and Caro were ushered into a different room from the one they had entered when they signed the contract last time.
There was a document on the desk that looked like a contract.

“Then please sign your names on this form here and then drip your blood on it.”

As Bazu instructed, they each wrote their name and then dripped blood on it.
Caro's hands seemed to be shaking.

“Please enter the magic circle with the two of you.
……
Okay, then, here we go.”

After confirming that the two of them have entered, Bazu casts the contract cancelation magic.

Then the magic circle emits a dazzling light and swallows the two of them.
Ataru's hand was gently placed on Caro's hand, who was anxiously holding Ataru's hem.
The two of them looked at each other and remembered the day when they first signed the slave contract.

This contract to release slaves was a ceremony that could only be performed if both parties agreed to it and affixed their seals, but since both Ataru and Caro agreed to it, the ceremony went off without a hitch.

“This is the end.
The slave contract between the two of you has been cancelled.”

When the light subsided, Bazu, who had wiped off his sweat, called out.

Then the collar that had been around Caro's neck naturally came off and fell easily onto her small hand.

[1] Since I don’t remember his name, I’ll just go with Bazu, since that’s how it’s in the RAW.
Though his name translates to “Buzz” I like “Bazu” way more.
